Well this is definitely not where we wanted to be, but it was always a case of when the Delta variant would get into our community, not if. Now we all need to do our bit and get out of this lock-down as soon as possible so that our lives may continue with more normality.

As we did with the previous lock-down, we will bring you information as soon as it comes to hand and we will keep it separate from other information we send to you.

For now some information that we know so far on wage subsidies and resurgence payments is below…

Wage Subsidy

The latest wage subsidy details have been announced and applications open this Friday (August 20th).

The COVID-19 Wage Subsidy August 2021 is a payment for employers to keep paying staff and protect jobs. Last year the Government committed to the Wage Subsidy being available when there is a regional or national move to Alert Levels 3 or 4 for a week or more.

The criteria included an expected loss of 40% of revenue as a result of the alert level increase.

The rates of the subsidy have increased:

  • $600 per week for a employee working 30 hours a week or more

  • $359 per week for a part time employee

Covid Resurgence

The Covid Resurgence Payment will also be reinstated if the country remains above Level 1 for a week or more.  Applications for the alert level increase announced on 17 August will open at 8am on 24 August.

How the RSP works:

A business or organisation must have experienced at least a 30% drop in revenue or a 30% decline in capital-raising ability over a 7-day period, due to the increased COVID-19 alert level.

Once activated, any business in New Zealand that has experienced a 30% drop in revenue or capital raising ability over a 7 day period as a result of the alert level increase would be eligible (subject to all other criteria being met).

When the RSP is activated, eligible businesses and organisations can apply to receive the lesser of:

  • $1,500 plus $400 per full-time equivalent (FTE) employee, up to a maximum of 50 FTEs

  • Four times (4x) the actual revenue decline experienced by the applicant.
